Bounty Calls Kartel A Genius

Bounty Calls Kartel A Genius

Following on the heels of a recent interview with the Jamaica Star where the Warlord Bounty Killer and U.S. based deejay Flippa Mafia traded insults about an unfinished house and moneys owed.  The very outspoken Alliance leader has once again stepped to the fore to speak his mind about several topical issues including two of his most accomplished proteges Vybz Kartel and Mavado.

According to the Warlord in his usual strong intonations, “Kartel a di wickedest genius, lyrically, but him still can’t throw Mavado. Kartel buss (10) years now and Mavado bigger than yuh and richer than yuh and him have at least three points ahead of Kartel. Some of these niggaz are stupid and just want to run di clubs and the streets.”

The cross angry deejay had high praises for fellow group members Serani and Mavado and said Kartel aka the ‘Gaa-zer’ and his Portmore Empire will never be able to attain the accolades of Alliance before later labeling them the Ungrateful Alliance.

“Look pon MTV Jams, yu si nobody from Gaaa-zer? Nuh Mavado yuh si? Mavado deh pon Hot 97 in a New York an’ a tour the whole a di US. Yuh never did know seh a suh Mavado bad till him start clash with Kartel, don’t? When Kartel leave Alliance him a do him thing and Mavado come replace him as a general. Who in a Portmore Empire can step up and be a leader? Jah Vinci? Blak Ryno? Dem a follower.” - He added.

Usain Bolt Clocks Fastest Ever 150m

May 19th, 2009

Usain Bolt Clocks Fastest Ever 150m

Put him in an Olympic stadium or a shopping street in the centre of Manchester and the result is the same: total annihilation.

The frightening thing is that the big Jamaican, who pushed back the boundaries of possibility last summer when he won three gold medals in world record time in Beijing, insists he is still only 70 per cent fit following an interrupted winter and the loss of nine days’ training after his car crash last month.

His winning time in Sunday’s rarely run 150 metres was an eye-popping 14.35sec, smashing the previous best-known time for the distance of Canada’s Donovan Bailey - 14.99sec run on bend against Michael Johnson in 1997.

Britain’s Marlon Devonish was a distant second in 15.07sec. He admitted Bolt was in “a league of his own”.

Bolt’s time will now be ratified by the International Association of Athletics Federations as an official ‘world best’, though it is his 100m split-time that will send shockwaves across the world - 9.90sec on a rain-soaked track in temperatures more common to February than mid-May.

To put that into perspective, Dwain Chambers managed 10.21sec in his first 100m of the season on Saturday in the tropical heat of Puerto Rico. The Briton’s talk of ‘Project Bolt’ looks precisely that: just talk.

Bolt must now be taken at his word when he says he is capable of improving on his 100m world record of 9.69sec this summer. “Anything is possible” is his mantra, and on this evidence it is hard to think of a better phrase to describe what lies ahead this summer.

“You can expect great things from me,” said Bolt. “I always go out and try to do my best.”

His performance, which ended with his trademark ‘lighting bolt’ celebration, was a reward for the several thousands hardy souls who shivered under umbrellas for most of the afternoon beside the temporary track erected on Manchester’s Deansgate.

But by the time Bolt took to the stage for the final the rain clouds had cleared and even the sun was starting to burst through. His Midas touch clearly extends to the elements.

Destra Makes New York ‘Hott’ With New Album

NEW YORK, NY (RHONA FOX, INC.) - International soca star Destra Garcia successfully launched her latest studio effort, HOTT, in Manhattan last Saturday, April 25, 2009. A sold-out crowd packed SOB’s, as New York City’s premier nightlife promotions team - Upscale Crowd Entertainment and Caribbean Fuse - presented the launch of her sixth album to longtime and new fans.

The versatile vocalist, songwriter and performer did not disappoint the packed Manhattan venue. Without her Atlantik band and joined by only two of her dancers, Destra drove the crowd into a bacchanal frenzy.  With rags, flags and shirts waving in the air, she thrilled them with her soca staples like “Carnival” and “Bonnie & Clyde,” and new hits from the album, including the title track “Hott,” and “Bacchanal.”

HOTT is a brilliant introduction to who Destra is, for those who are unfamiliar with her, and is a must-have addition to the ‘Destra’ collection for fans and soca-lovers everywhere. “I think this album shows growth as a performing artist - a combination of my musical styles and versatility - past, present and future,” discloses soca’s ultimate female ambassador. Boasting 10 sizzling tracks, HOTT is poised to take soca fans by storm as Destra brings this indigenous sound of the southern Caribbean to music aficionados around the world.

She will first hit the masses at the Best of the Best concert in Miami in May, where she’ll share the stage with Rick Ross and T-Pain, and represent as the only soca act on the dancehall/hip-hop bill. Her tour dates for the summer include stops to celebrate Caribana in Toronto, Crop Over in Barbados, and Notting Hill Carnival in London, just to name a few of the world’s biggest music festivals.

While in New York, Destra met with members of the media, including TRACE TV, was featured on Irie Jam Radio and on New York’s urban mainstream giant HOT97, with Jabba, D Life and Bobby Konders. She also headlined at PACE University last Friday, then shocked the crowd at Caribbean Fridays at Club Element with an impromptu performance.

Celebrating 10 years in the business, Destra revealed she is ready to move forward, accepting new challenges with the aid of musical skills already acquired. And if this album celebration proved anything, it is that Destra’s fans are ready to join her journey, wherever she goes. The club was filled to capacity hours before she hit the stage at 3am, and promoters say they had to turn away almost 500 people. “This is the best experience I’ve had in New York, in all the years I’ve been coming here,” stated an exorbitant Destra, following her rousing showcase. “From the sold-out crowd in the club to the radio interviews and meeting with the media and fans, it definitely was my best trip here.”

For those who missed the soca queen in action, she will be back in New York in late May. Tune in to her new singles and tour dates by visiting www.myspace.com/officialdestragarcia or www.mydestra.com.

Mavado Demolishes the UK

Mavado Demolishes the UK

Dancehall megastar Mavado kicked off his UK/European Tour in fine style last night at Club Isis in Nottingham, causing pandemonium with the many females in attendance, who spent most of his performance trying to drag him off stage.

The packed club was the first of 4 shows on the “Brighter Days” UK tour, with Bristol, Bradford and London finishing off the UK leg on Sunday night. Alliance stablemate Serani and Bugle are also on the UK tour. The Anger Management Band is the backing band for the London show, with Alliance selector Boom Boom also in the travel party.

Monday sees Mavado jetting off to Paris for his first-ever live shows in Europe, which will see the Gully god blaze a trail through France, Holland, Germany, Switzerland and Belgium.  “It’s my third time in the UK and every time it gets bigger and better,” says Mavado. “I will be performing in many new cities and countries on this tour which is exciting and I am looking forward to going to Europe to spread my music and represent Jamaica.”

As soon as Mavado finishes up in Europe he will fly straight into Miami for the Best of the Best Memorial Day Weekend extravaganza, that promises to be bigger and better than ever, rounding out a gruelling month in LA for the UCLA Jazz Festival on Monday May 25th.

Being able to perform in UK cities that had previously stopped Mavado performing there and with successful shows in St Maarten and Antigua recently, his travelling woes seem far behind now, as Mavado moves on to a busy Summer that will see him in action in Atlanta, Greensboro, the St Kitts Music Festival, HOT 97’s Summer Jam, the Brooklyn Music festival and his first ever tour to Japan amongst other places.

With some big name collaborations in the making, the Gully God’s international popularity continues to expand.
