A Tribute To Mothers (Sunday Devotion)

March 22nd, 2009

A Tribute To Mothers

He maketh the barren woman to keep house, [and to be] a joyful mother of children. Praise ye the LORD. Psalm 113:9

WHO IS MOTHER?

Mother is half of the Father/Mother team, the one who gave birth to you as a child. When she first held you in her arms, she fell madly in love with you! She is the one that changed your diaper, gave you your bottle, bathed and dressed you. She is the one who tended to you when you were sick, wishes she could have bore your pain, but unable to even share it with you. There is none like a Mother.

If you have children, then you know what it’s like to be a Mother. Often, it’s a tough job, with unruly children, and many heartaches before they are grown. Sometimes a Mother is lucky that she has well-disciplined children, but only because she has done her best in order for them to be well-adjusted teenagers and later adults. Mostly, Mother sits and worries that she hasn’t done her best with her children, especially if they don’t turn out as she thought they should, with all the training she had given them.

Mother is a human being, capable of making mistakes. She is not perfect, just as none of us are perfect. But she is the one that we picture as being perfect during our childhood. As we become older, we realize that Mothers are capable of right and wrong ways of doing things, missing the mark, just as much as the next person. But she is still Mother. The thing that sets her apart is her everlasting love for her children and her intent that they lead normal, well-adjusted lives.

Not until we become adults, do we really begin to appreciate WHO Mother really is. She has nurtured you through your childhood, put up with your sassy ways and times of being lazy during your teenage years, and cried through your becoming an adult. But Mother was always there to encourage you when you made a mistake, although sometimes it’s hard not to show disappointment {I am sure I’ve done that}.

As we grow older and have our own children, we realize that Mother was a very strong person, and we begin to wonder can we ever fit into her shoes. No, we wear our ‘own shoes’……..we can never do things the same as our Mother, although she has given us the pattern from which to build. IF we have a Godly Mother {I did!}, then we can bring up our children in the ways of God, so that when they grow older we have the assurance that some day they will live for God. After all, Proverbs 22:6 says “Train up a child in the ways he should go, and when he is old, he will not depart from it.”

Mothers are special. Is your Mother living today? If so, try to make this Mother’s Day the most wonderful day of her life! Show her you care if only by telling her you love her. Take her out to eat, take her flowers, but show up on Mother’s Day, if possible. You will never know how much this helps Mother to realize her family still cares. Sometimes we get busy doing the usual things in life, and lose sight of the most important aspects - loving our family. And Mother happens to be where that ‘family’ began. Without Mother, there would never have been a family. You might also tell Daddy that you are so happy that he chose Mother to be his wife. Make his eyes light up as well!!

M - Messenger, relaying God’s Word

O - Outpouring of genuine love

Lisa Hype Denies Romance With Vybz Kartel

March 17th, 2009

Lisa Hype Denies Romance With Vybz Kartel

Portmore Empire first lady Lisa Hype has denied that she and Kartel are involved in a romantic relationship, and asserted that the raunchy photos are just promotion for her career and the new single, Whine for Me, and nothing else.

“I don’t know what all the excitement is about, Kartel is a professional, me is a professional, we come together and do this shoot to promote the single and that is that,” she said. “I am not having sex with Kartel.”

On the Whine for Me single, the two engage in a seductive conversation that seems to suggest a secret lovers scenario where their passions are threatening to boil over into their personal lives. The song’s opening lines set the stage for it.

KARTEL:Mi waan fi love yu in real life

LISA: When yu touch mi body, that feel nice

KARTEL:Then ah ramping shop for the whole night

LISA: Mek sure yu can love mi till daylight

Other lines such as ‘body hotter than steamed rice’ add to the intrigue.

“That’s just art, and in this case, life is not imitating art,” Lisa Hype laughed. “People just love mix-up and gossip and they don’t understand that entertainment is a business. The Teacha is my mentor, ah him grow mi, no shame no inna the ting, mi respect him, him respect mi, and we ah promote this song fi build the Empire.”

The song’s release was timed with the super-sexy photos featuring with a scantily-clad Lisa Hype posing in the arms of her mentor and boss Vybz Kartel has the Internet world in a tizzy. The photos which show a semi-nude Lisa Hype with Vybz Kartel’s hands cupping her breasts have set tongues wagging all over Jamaica.

The provocative photos show Lisa Hype in a number of interesting poses. In one photo, he is standing behind her cupping both breasts while she looks doe-eyed at the camera. In one particularly erotic pose, she is seated in his lap while his hands cover her pubic area in a V, and she covers her breasts with a come-hither quality. It is not quite clear whether she is wearing panties or not in the photos. In yet another photo, she covers her right breast with her right hand while Kartel covers her left breast with his left hand while she is seated in his lap. In another photo, she stands, facing him, while wearing his candy-striped jacket, her smile and panties.

On the website, www.one876entertainment.com, there have been several comments, some of which were surprisingly supportive. One read:

“I have to enlighten you guys that you need not to take this too personal it’s just business, and sorry to disappoint you but Lisa Hype and Shorty are very good friends likewise Kartel they grew together and are simply two artistes coming together and doing dancehall music in this appropriate form. Call her what you want for taking these pics but you can’t hate on her for going after her dream, she will excel, tek it to dem Lisa Hype you sell off, pretty like Marilyn Munroe.”

Others even sought to defend her.

“All mi a seh is dis, if Lisa Hype want to take pictures like that with Kartel, who fa problem is that? I am 100% sure say the sum of unu “ladies” have some worst picture pan unu camera phone and digital camera, so low the chick. Is only say fi unu biznizz no outa road yet.”

But most of the comments left were scathing, and seemed to come from women who were passing acquaintances of Lisa Hype, one even suggesting that she was a slut.

“Come on Lisa, I’m not a hater but mi can’t respect a woman dat present herself like dis before she even have a hit record…yes sex sells and if you going to sell it,you betta do it right: how u a show di goods before you even see the million dolla suite?..Anyhow the publicity work cuz now I know who she is even though she is like skirmish to me.. sorry Lisa.. I can’t help it.. redeem yourself mama and let me know why I should be a fan.”

Lisa Hype laughed at the comments, especially those that alleged that she had been sexually involved with Kartel for years.

“Some are just haters…mi just a laugh at the whole thing, me and Kartel ah just colleagues, and we are entertainers and people need fi tek dem mind outta the gutter. Some of my female fans may be disappointed because of my tomboy, hustling image but they don’t have to be, this is just a different side of Lisa Hype, the other day I went on CVM Onstage and I got all glamorous for it…as an artiste you have to take chances to market yourself.”

For his part, Vybz Kartel said that “the people miss collabs like this in dancehall, so with the success of the Rampin’ Shop we just followed up with something fresh.”

“Fresh artistes like Lisa Hype who is signed to Adidjahiem/Notnice and is the official first lady. So it was only right to start of her year with a bang.”

And what a bang indeed.

Reaching Up To Heaven (Sunday Devotion)

March 15th, 2009

Reaching Up To Heaven

I see children reach up their hands to their mothers, eager to get their attention. It reminds me of my own efforts to reach up to God in prayer.

The early church stated that the work of the aged is to love and to pray. Of the two, I find love to be the most difficult, and prayer to be the most confusing. My infirmity lies in not knowing the exact thing for which I ought to pray. Should I pray that others will be delivered from their troubles—or that their troubles will go away? Or should I pray for courage to carry on through the difficulties that belabor them?

I’m comforted by Paul’s words: “The Spirit also helps in our weaknesses” (Rom. 8:26). Here the apostle uses a verb that means, “to help by joining in an activity or effort.” God’s Spirit is joined to ours when we pray. He intercedes for us “with groanings which cannot be uttered.” He is touched by our troubles; He sighs often as He prays. He cares for us deeply—more than we care for ourselves. Furthermore, He prays “according to the will of God” (v.27). He knows the right words to say.

Therefore, I needn’t worry about getting my request exactly right. I need only to hunger for God and to reach up, knowing that He cares.  — David H. Roper

O God, too weak and worn for words, I shrink
From trials that deeply wound, and yet to think
Your Holy Spirit helps me as I pray
And gives a voice to what I cannot say! —Gustafson

When praying, it’s better to have a heart without words than words without heart.

Youth Corner: ‘A Person is Known by the Company He keeps’

‘A Person is Known by the Company He keeps’

By: Adolphia Martin

Have you ever found yourself being judged for the friends you keep?  Gained a reputation because of the people you are around? Simple solution…GET RID OF THEM!  Just like the phrase ‘men come a dime a dozen’, so do friends and its completely up to you to treasure the shiny ones and put the bent, cracked and rusty ones aside.

As teenagers and young adults we have various responsibilities, which include carrying ourselves in a respectful and appropriate manner and maintaining a good reputation.   A good reputation is not simply determined by the clothes we wear, the things we do or the way we speak but also by the company we choose to keep.  Being around the wrong group of people or merely the wrong person can have a negative effect on the way you are viewed by society.  It is quite easy to gain an unfavourable reputation from being around certain individuals.

Understandably, you won’t get along with everyone and you would prefer to be around people with whom you are familiar.  However, if you find yourself in a position where you are being prejudged, misjudged or discriminated against due to the people you associate yourself with, the consequences in the long run would be more painful than giving up these ‘friends’.

Don’t get me wrong, not always is it necessary to completely cut these friends off.  Sometimes simply distancing yourself can be just as effective and can have a clear difference on the way you are perceived in society.

In conclusion, when choosing your friends, always remember that all that glistens isn’t gold and that the reputation we gain at this stage of our lives will follow us everywhere we go.  No matter how much you believe, that what people think of you doesn’t matter, IT DOES!

Chris Brown Will Hit You Again - Oprah Winfrey Warns

Chris Brown Will Hit You Again - Oprah Winfrey Warns

Since the release of reports that Rihanna and Chris Brown have reunited, this took place at P Diddy’s Beach House in Miami, as began to anger a lot of Rihanna’s female fans and industry insiders such as Oprah Winfrey and former Manhattan sex-crimes prosecutor Linda Fairstein.

Oprah Winfrey: “If a man hits you once, he will hit you again. He will hit you again.”

She also went on to say that, she would dedicate a program about the situation on her next show - Domestic Violence.

“I want to do a show about it, dedicated to all the Rihannas of the world.”

The former Manhattan sex-crimes prosecutor Linda Fairstein went as far as to compare the Chris Brown, Rihanna’s saga to O.J. Simpson’s case.

“Many of the circumstances in her case were like the early warning signs in the O.J. Simpson case,” Fairstein said.

She also mentioned the fact that Chris Brown choked Rihanna while saying, “Now I’m really going to kill you” is a particularly bad sign.

“Choking behavior is a very interesting factor. It’s hands on, face-to-face. It’s a very intimate type of violence,” she said.

The Time Will Come (Sunday Devotion)

March 8th, 2009

The Time Will Come

A USA Today article describes how parents today seek to initiate their children into a world of all faiths. Ema Drouillard, who runs a ceremony service, was asked by a couple to conduct a service for their baby, Greer. The mother said, “We just wanted a larger spirit to guide our daughter, but we didn’t want to get specific. I wanted all her bases covered.” The couple said, “We just do Christianity L-I-T-E” for Greer, who “believes in angels and fairies, leprechauns and Santa Claus.” This illustrates the low value placed on scriptural truth that is so prevalent in our culture today.

The apostle Paul warned Timothy that a time would come when people would prefer “lite” spiritual meals and would not tolerate substantive teaching (2 Tim. 4:3-4). He predicted that false teaching would increase and be embraced by many because it caters to the needs of their flesh. They have a craving to be entertained and desire teaching that leaves them with good feelings about themselves. Paul instructed Timothy to combat this by teaching doctrines according to God’s Word. The purpose of his instruction was to correct, rebuke, and encourage others (v.2).

As believers we are called to teach and obey the Word of God, not to scratch the itches of our culture.  — Marvin Williams

Lord, teach us from Your holy Word
All error to discern,
And by Your Spirit’s light help us
From Satan’s snares to turn. —Bosch

Stand on the Word of God and you won’t fall into error.
